  • Preikestulen or Pulpit Rock
    Difficulty level: Moderate
Preikestolen, or Pulpit Rock, is one of Norway's most outstanding natural monuments. It is a rocky ledge hundreds of meters high, which offers a breathtaking view of the fjord.

The ascent to Preikestulen starts from the hostel. The path is 3.8 kilometers one way. A traveler in good physical shape will conquer the route in an hour, while others will have to expect a two-hour climb. The descent is somewhat faster, but there will be more impact on the knees.

The route is well marked, so there is no risk of getting lost. At the beginning the ascent is steep and you should be prepared for an exhausting stony path. But the further up, the road becomes easier.

In good weather, the traffic can be like a car on the highway. Children can manage climbing on Preikestolen, but babies have to be carried and constantly looked after at the top, so the hike is barely suitable for the youngest members of the family.
